To Our Valued Customers Sometimes we don't take time in our daily lives to thank those we most value. Let me take this unique opportunity to tell you all how much my staff and I appreciate your business and friendship. As you may or may not know, this summer marks a historic change in the daily lives of Floridians. On November 4th of last year, 3,700,000 residents passed a ban on indoor smoking. Contrary to what many thought, and were led to believe, this was not a bill aimed at restaurants. In fact, in the ballot summary, the word "restaurant" was not mentioned. The bill was a ban on indoor workplace smoking to protect employees from second hand smoke. Though the bill has been battered around in both the House and Senate, there seems to be no appeasement for bowling centers or any other indoor workplace except "stand alone bars." Naturally, all bowling centers in the state will have to adhere to and abide by the law. We at Shore Lanes wil become non-smoking on July 1st, which is the day the law goes into effect. This law has been on going in states such as California, Maryland, along with a new law banning smoking in New York. California and Maryland statistics show a significant decline in business the first couple of years because of customer rebellion to an unwanted law. Fortunately, the statisctics also show that business rebounded in a couple of years after the initial implementation of the law. Our hope is that our customers will understand the intent of the law, right or wrong. Our hope is that you will realize that bowling and the camaraderie of friends is why you are really here. That the thrill of victory, (and the agony of defeat), and the satisfaction received from bowling will out weigh that smoking urge (I know I have it myself). Please know that my staff and me will be as understanding and cordial to make your continued enjoyment at Shore Lanes a pleasant one. To the smokers, please stay with us, bowling is FUN! To the current non-smokers, please have patience and understand the plight of the smoker, he or she is your friend. To all of our bowlers -- please encourage the non-smoker wh had to quit, because they were unable for health or other reasons to tolerate the smoke, to get back to bowling.
